Metal Birds

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Pick & Pull

Pick and Pull is one of my favorite places on earth. Robyn & I needed some auto parts for our Volvo so late one Sunday afternoon we went on a scavenger hunt.  Once arriving at the car graveyard I quickly forgot about why we were there.  Instead we hunted for pictures rather than parts.

This was Robyns first "car picking" experience - she was convinced we would find either a dead body or bags of money. We found neither.

It was a blast and shall return very soon with lighting equipment - to do a full shoot!

Pray & Spray

The second Sunday of March is "National Day of PRAYER for Crops and Industry" (unofficial),  While having coffee in Newberg I overheard two ranch hands discuss where the "crops prayer" meeting is. I quickly googled it and validated that this is generally a cultural day where believers come together & pray in preparation for the planting season as well as to lift up business and farming for the year ahead.

With that knowledge I set out with my trusty 65 year old camera on the second Sunday of March 2013. Lucky me, Sunday happened to be a sunny day with wonderful light. Below are images of men working their plots of livelihood.  There are seasonal hires trimming filbert trees (Hazel nuts to the city dwellers), I was amazed how much trimming was being done to those trees.  I then met Dan plowing his field. It was impressive how he could plow in the straightest lines by just eyeballing it.  Lastly, Paul was fueling up his SPRAYER with fertilizer/pesticide. He operates a business that services all Yamhill County farmers with almost every farming need.

The second Sunday of March in Yamhill County was a day of optimism, preparation, hope, and prayer.

Family Photos - Easter!

Spring is here and I had my first family portrait session of 2013 (finally!). I had a wonderful family portrait session with Will, Janessa, and their boy Wyatt Brindza. Will is a State Trooper and Janessa & Will both own & run CrossFit Wilsonville.

We had a one hour photo session at Williamette Greenway Park. The weather was perfect - the sky was like a giant softbox. I did realize however, it is time to get rid of the strobes (the recycle time was killing me). Strobe is great but it makes it so hard to react to the spontaneous unexpected shots (little Wyatt was a mover!).  All in all -I am proud of these pictures and it was nice to knock the cob webs off. Bring on Summer!

Cheers!

Oregon Vinyards

Last month Robyn & I had lots of friends and family in town. Our main attraction that we took most on were the numerous vineyards that are within a few miles of our house. Stoller was one of our regular and favorite stops. As always I make Robyn be my model and if there are others that are willing- I take their photos. In this case linda was my other reluctant model. She is a natural! Cheers!

Christmas.... yes its almost Feb!

Well 2013 is in full swing and the holidays are over. Not for me! I just got a roll of film developed that I took as a "Holiday Roll". This was Robyn & Doig's second christmas tree and boy did we have fun harvesting it. For the rest of you that live up north or out west you had a white christmas while we had a wet one. This year was one of the best yet.

As I reflect upon this year and all of the growth it has brought, and change that came with it. As I sit here and labor over what to say I am reminded that we are in full swing with good ol' 2013, I hope that ya'all are sticking with your resolutions and have continued the spirit of giving.  For me 2012 and by the looks of it 2013 was and will be fulfilling. I hope that you all experience the same.

Kylee Thoreson

Anyways, I put out a model call and Kylee Thoreson was one of the first models to reply. She has modeled for numerous photographers, as well as plethora of experience and looks, she is professional, game, and stunning! I thoroughly enjoyed the shoot and look forward to shooting with her again. As you can tell the shoot went well... we both went into it without a concept... free form...off the cuff!

Odly enough there are very few roses in the City of Roses.

Itomingmak- “the animal with skin like a beard”

I came upon these creatures while working in the arctic regions of Alaska. They are one of my favorite AK animals. I was lucky enough to be able to get within 20 feet. With a little ingenuity I was able to get some amazing video and will be posting very soon. Here is some interesting info about Musk Ox.
